Reflection on Lent and Spring
It is not a coincidence that Lent comes during Spring. Lent “spring, springtime”, literally, “lengthening (of daylight hours)”;
Lent is a time of spiritual cleaning. Spring is a time of cleaning from the gloom of winter. Spiritually we take time during lent to reflect on our lives and look for areas that need cleaning and refreshing. Mother Nature does the same. She provides beautiful spring flowers to enlighten our moods after a period of winter despair. Spring is like a period of resurrection, the world springs to life, it is a resurrection that brings joy from the deadness of winter. Not unlike the resurrection of our Lord. His followers felt that those three days of death was like a winter, but on that Sunday morning at the tomb with the sun shining bright the disciples found that Jesus was alive. Alive and in radiant glory, not dissimilar to the flowers that raise their heads to the glorious light of sun,
